What happened to Felix in Lost Age?

He was able to talk in Broken Seal, but after he jumped off the lighthouse, all he ever said was Why? in Shaman's Village.

Did he hit his head and that impaired his speech to where he only knew how to say Why?

Camelot made Felix mute since the player controlled him in TLA, Isaac was mute in Broken Seal, but in TLA he talks, Felix was talking in Broken Seal but is mute here

Camelot want's players to "feel" like they are Felix

Nothing more, nothing less

True, but what about Felix's Why thing in Shaman Village?

What was that about?

It make him look like that's all he can say.

That's a translation error

He is supposed to say "? ? ?"

Yeah, now watch in GS4 Matthew will be talking and Felix's son will be mute except for one part of game he too will break the silence just to one word.

This.  So much this.  It makes absolutely no sense.

Then again, Lunk never talked in the Zelda series, probably because nobody wants to hear him say excuse me princess all the time, that was so awful Nintendo decided to make Lunk a mute for life.

So what does Lunk do?

He listens to what others say to guide him through the game, this is probably what Camelot was aiming for with Isaac, Felix and Matthew.

I try to imagine Link with a personality, but all I can imagine him being is a generic Mary Sue. Keep him silent.

Isaac, Felix and Matthew on the other hand, are all supposed to have individual personalities, which is why making them silent protags was a backwards thing to do, especially in a plot-heavy RPG like Golden Sun.

Considering that they also talk when they're not playable, and that in DD you get - and I kid you not - dialogue options for a freaking silent protagonist - it makes no sense for them to be silent at all.  Remember how shocked everyone was when TLA came out at Isaac's personality, and how strikingly different it was from most people's imaginations?  THAT.  If you're gonna have a silent protag, they need to stay silent.  If you had a guy who talks in one game, it make no sense for him to shut up the second he's playable.

They have official, canon personalities.  So it makes no sense to follow the "player projection" philosophy and use a silent protag. :/

Camelot made Matt a silent protagonist in order to continue the tradition of the other two games.
Firs time I saw the "emoticons" of GSDD I really believed  it would be an actual dialogue system and I was so excited (Yay! a golden sun without a silent protagonist, finally, I will be able to tell Garet that he is stupid!)
Then reality punched me in the face... again.

the using his speech impairment to have players interact more in the game.
but it while be funny in my opnion if it was possible to create your own speech.

I rather agree with Will here.
