Now that you talk like that, I really would like a prequel type deal, set in the age of alchemy.
Get to pick your race from, Jenei (With regular choices between the elements, Lemurian, and Anemos), Proxian, Beastman, Exathi, Fori, or Dwarf.
Big free roam of all the lands.

Well said in the op, Star.  I feel exactly the same way.  The team that made TBS and TLA aren't at Camelot anymore - or if they are, they've gotten so used to making sports games they've lost their chops for RPGs.  Dark Dawn proved that - the lore violations, lazy team design, half-assed classes, bad puzzles, and lack of metroidvania elements present in the first two games (got a new spell?  Go back to earlier areas and try it out!) makes it rather evident.  Then there's the fact that they tried to please absolutely everyone, even opposing sides...
