Title: Complaints, Complaints, complaints.
Post by: Nyran on November 08, 2012, 05:21:53 AM
This is a page for the trolls and flamers inside all of us. This page is completely devoted to things that were wrong with THIS game. Put all your fancy ideas for the next game in the Golden Sun Four section.

As for why I made this: I guess I just want to see peoples opinions on a subject of my choosing.

Why do I get the feeling that, because I just said that, This page is going to get about as much respect as I did on the "The Game" page in Aquarius?

If I had to name some of mine I guess they would be:

1. The Disjointed plot: so, The Broken Seal was pretty straight forward. Bad Guys Take Power, Your Fault, you go stop them.
Lost Age: your "Friends" are jerks, you gotta go save the world, even though they think you're pure evil.
This Game: Your best friend is like the fanon version of Garet, we're kicking you out of the house to clean up his mess, Weird vortexes that you don't hear about again until the End of the game, Random bad guys, pointless doomsday machine, Save world?

2. Cutscenes. Why must everyone say something? I swear, it's like this:

Blados: Blah Blah, Hollow threat Blah!

Tyrell: Blah Blah anger Blah Blah!!

Chalis: Blah Blah, You suck, but I'm saying it in a seductive fashion Blah Blah

Karis: Blah Blah Question Blah?

Himi: Blah Blah pointless Blah

Matthew: Blah Blah Blah? :04:

3. The Characters. I don't hate all of them, Amiti and Sveta I especially like, but others, like Tyrell, Karis, and Rief: don't get me started, this is long enough.

So yeah, there's that. Now, despite all those things, I love this game and it's predessecors. Feel free to post!

The only thing that really made me angry about this game has to do with the plot. You play as the kids of the previous games' heroes, who are basically clones of their parents both in the story and in battle. There's constant reminders of what happened in the old games, including characters and places that you don't get to see again. They talk about events that happened 30 years ago as in-detail as if they happened yesterday. The optional bosses were re-used from the old games, even though they're supposedly already defeated. Most of the monsters are re-used as well. Isaac is a total Mary Sue-type character, having no visible character flaws.

In summation, the entire game is centered around the success of the first two games (especially the first one), as if Camelot is stroking their ego the entire way through, instead of having the new characters win the glory they clearly earned.

I could rant all day about other things they messed up on, but they didn't really make me nearly as annoyed as the above.

Oh yeah, another thing that made me mad about DD was the fact that the overworld is way too tiny. There's literally no sense of exploration...

Or how the dungeons were way open and simple. That stupid map ruined that for me. why couldn't they be more vague, like Zelda Maps?

I know right! Plus, they were a lot smaller. Most of them only take about 15 minutes to get through...

On a related note(Get it?), the treasure chest with the note in it near the beginning of that place, I think that was written by Alex after he got the Luna Mask while he was in Ayuthay doing one only knows what with Amiti's Mother.

ON TOPIC: I hated that the Star Magician was too easy, even though it's still my favorite boss. x3
Title: Re: Complaints, Complaints, complaints.
Post by: Nyran on November 08, 2012, 09:25:52 AM
I think Dullahan may have made up for it, but yes. Star Magician himself was easy. being really unlucky and dealing with three Ghoul Ballz and a Refresh Ball at once is not.even so, I destroyed his sorry A*s. They weren't even able to show it on the news, it was so brutal.

yes i will complain about it.

first of all why is their so much filler.
why is the game story so short
and so on.

(im not in the mood to make the whole game look bad) because it isn't bad...
Title: Re: Complaints, Complaints, complaints.
Post by: Nyran on November 10, 2012, 07:40:14 AM
It isn't. I believe I stated that earlier, so don't get the wrong idea. I just figured that making people think of the bad stuff will make it easier for them to think of how to fix those bad things.

Speaking of people to cast Ragnarok on, I wanted to fight Dodonpa instead of his dumb toad.

And I've always wanted to Ragnarok Alex too.

I agree with you on Dodonpa, but I like Alex. He's very interesting. The only time I wanted to Ragnarok HIM was when he dissed you in Champa

I think that vortex at the end has something to do with Alex's plan. That's just my guess though.

what would a vortex do with a normal human without psyenergy you think?

Probably nothing. Those two from Bilbin in Dark Dawn seemed fine.

My main complaint about the game is that you spend over half the game in southern angara with like what, 4 towns and 3 dungeons, that's just horrible.

Another point is the plot pace, for the first 30-60 min you spend on a plot about the vortexes, then like 15 min later we get to this plot about alchemy machines, seriously Camelot, stick to one plot,

Another one is the difficulty of battles, the first and second bosses were ok, and the first overworld enemies were fine, but soon the difficulty never really got any Change until the grave eclipses enemies showed up, and finally at the chaos chimera, and really the only boss I had real trouble with was Ancient Devil.

Finally the glitches, oh god how I hate these.

Post by: Tetsu (Soltur) on November 19, 2012, 06:53:36 PM
My MAIN complaint was that you couldn't return to the Lookout Cabin (Goma in general) and, after the Eclipse, you couldn't return to Bellinsk.

My MAIN complaint was that you couldn't return to the Lookout Cabin (Goma in general) and, after the Eclipse, you couldn't return to Bellinsk.
Points of no return also excisted in the first two BTW

Golden Sun The Broken Seal: Sol Sanctum, once you complete it, you can never return to it
Golden Sun The Lost Age: Venus Lighthouse, can not return to Upper Gondowan after the prologue

Post by: Tetsu (Soltur) on November 19, 2012, 07:09:05 PM
True, but those are very small areas. In this game, you can only explore about what, HALF of Angara? Maybe a little more?

The summons were nice, but maybe it'd be more nice if they used animation like that to make cut scenes you know, more interesting!?

Maybe I would've payed attention to some of them the second time through if that was the case

The summons could be more interesting if the gave them different animantions every time you used a summon
Title: Re: Complaints, Complaints, complaints.
Post by: Tetsu (Soltur) on November 26, 2012, 07:55:10 PM
Do you want Camelot to take a super-long amount of time to create GS4?!?! Just kidding, but it would take a lot of time to program all those different animations into the game.

Don't get me wrong, it's an awesome idea, but it'd be too time consuming.
Title: Re: Complaints, Complaints, complaints.
Post by: Star Magician on November 28, 2012, 03:55:48 PM
The summons are overrated. The animations are nothing but a flashy selling point, nothing more. They need to spend more time in other parts of the game >.<

Title: Re: Complaints, Complaints, complaints.
Post by: Nyran on December 06, 2012, 12:56:28 AM
Nope. She was my preferred choice between the two Jupiter Adepts. Both story-wise, and statistically. Karis was boring. Sveta, I think, actually has good backstory, and plot-relation, but that's just me. Karis was a Wind-Seer. Just like the last two Jupiter Adepts. Sveta had better classes, including the epic Gladiator Class. Best Class for her. No doubt. Was really useful in the fight against Dullahan

I don't dislike her, I just don't care for her, she is like A LOT of other RPG "that had a brother who turned evil yet she is forced to kill him" type characters.

You can think she is interesting, that's fine, but I honestly cared less about her, although Himi is much worse :gsagitated:

But the problem with the idea of them going way up or down in battle was actually bringing the mechanics into the fight. When I originally pitched the idea, I thought of it more as smaller, but permanent stat boosts/drops for every time the MC uses an emoticon, because I see no possible way to bring it into the fight without making it seem like a weird gimmick.

I didn't like there was no Proxians, after Karst and Agatio, it seemed like Proxians were iconic Golden Sun characters simply because Saturos started that trend in the first game.

The characters I didn't care for were Rief, Eoleo and Himi

Eoleo and Himi were desendents of non adept npcs in Lost Age, I didn't like that the second Mars Adept and Second Earth Adept didn't desend from moore popular Golden Sun characters, like for example a Proxian makes a ideal Mars Adept because Proxians are that of the Mars clan, they are not bad guys, and they are a iconic Golden Sun race.

I'm not sure what they could of done about the Earth Adept, maybe that's why they settled for Himi, all I do know is I don't like that Takiru actually exists as Himi's brother, I hope he never ever becomes playable.

Himi certainly wasn't really a ideal choice for a Earth Adept.

Rief made me miss Mia, I hated this wimp, he couldn't even use a light blade, all he could use was staffs, I think Rief should of been a girl because of this, he seems kind of weak, I bet Nowell is a more powerful adept than Rief.

I have nothing negative about Eoleo, it's just I'd rather have the Proxian, like little copy of Saturos much like how Matthew is a copy of Isaac and Amiti is a copy of Alex, that's all.

I didn't like the Teleport Lapis not being in this game

Too much boat travel
