You may get your wish if someone can find one of the books detailing the history of Ancient Rome. They had a plant that was a good contraceptive, so good that they farmed it to extinction. Her's the kicker, IN THE KNOWN WORLD AT THE TIME. BEFORE AMERICA AND AUSTRALIA WERE DISCOVERED!

Revive!

Did you know that a sharks can regrow teeth for as long as they're alive?

Did you know baby spiders can make balloons to fly?

Did you know that the smaller scorpions have the deadliest venom?

Did you know scorpions glow under a blacklight?
Title: Re: General chat (no spam allowed)

Those are all things I used to know, but forgot.
I used to love bugs and their alien-like characteristics. They were always so much more interesting than any other animals o_O
Spiders and Scorpions really creep me out though...
Title: Re: General chat (no spam allowed)
Post by: Scorpio on December 27, 2012, 06:41:50 AM
So you're saying you hate me? Just kidding, but I do find baby spiders cute. I have always liked arachnids, but birds are even more interesting.

Let's just say that if you find yourself on the wrong side of my shoe, it's not my fault. ;)

Spiders keep finding me in my sleep. I wake up with spider bites every now and then and it really freaks me out sometimes ._.
Title: Re: General chat (no spam allowed)
Post by: Scorpio on December 27, 2012, 06:44:57 PM
I've been bitten before, and I don't mind. I think spiders and bats have more pros then cons.

Did you know that on average there are about eight spider legs in a candy bar?

Or that a sharks teeth are angled so that you can enter their mouth with ease but escape is just about impossible?

Or that in some countries they stitch up deep cuts by taking large ants, letting them bit where the the cut is, holding the two sides together, and pull the ants body away leaving the head still attached to the cut? Normally they'll have a row of them of course.

And did you know that I enjoy bombarding people with random yet interesting facts?

(This is not spam, I swear)

On a random note:   my boyfriend just sent me a text that said "Why shoot werewolfs with silver? that's expensive. why not use chocolate?"      It's the random crap like this that remind me why I'm dating him.

Why would you want to kill an entire new race of beings like werewolves?
Title: Re: General chat (no spam allowed)
Post by: CHEESE4ALL on January 02, 2013, 04:19:05 AM
New? What do you mean new?   If they were to exist would it not be more reasonable to say they've been around for hundreds if not thousands of years?
Title: Re: General chat (no spam allowed)

Wolves have  been breeding with coyotes, so I assume that werewolve have been breeding with werecoyotes, resulting in a new breed/race.

Nothing is Impossible. Everything is Permitted.
Treat others as you would like to be treated in return.
Nothing is Forever.

Very much so. But only if you have the flashlight,  otherwise you just stepped on a scorpion (admittedly that's a good time for shoes)   But you'd also have to check your shoes for scorpions.   Texas and Arizona weren't my two favorite places to live.

Did you know that there is no such thing as an actual red lobster? They only turn red after you cook them.   They come in variety of shades of blues, greens oranges, browns and even purples.    So next you're at red lobster and you color a lobster red on one of their kids menus, you just drew a dead lobster on the bottom of the sea.

I love the northwest. :3
I've only been to Oregon about 3 times. That would be 60% of the times I've been out of state lol.

EDIT: Nevermind, 50%. I've been to Texas or Oklahoma (I forget) once when I was very very little.

I've visited Washington... three times. o.o My destination all those times was Seattle, but for different reasons. I went last year with a group on campus for a Global Health conference. I've lived in other states (born in HI, lived in CA for a while, AZ, then OR), so I guess I'm more of a west person in general.

I'm actually not very fond of the snow, but I love rain. Everything is so much more peaceful when it's raining. That's why the northwest is awesome to me. I just don't like the people around here, and I hate cities. I'd much rather live in the countryside, maybe near a mountain. Though I'm thankful for anywhere outside of Seattle/Tacoma. o_O

It could just be this particular area, but many people are really rude and come off as either very self-centered and impersonal, or nosy, snobby and irritable.
Or maybe I'm just a judgmental bastige with a lack of interest in any real life social activity whatsoever, so I'm completely wrong. Who knows :P

Hmmm. I guess it depends on where you often spend your time. It's like... I spend a lot of time on campus, so I normally see young adults and professors. They don't represent the city I'm in, though. xD

Well, most of my time is spent at home and at work, and at work is where I meet most people, so yeah.
But even here at home, our neighbors are really nosy and threaten to "call someone" if our dogs don't stop barking... in broad daylight when everyone is either awake or not home. -.-

It'd most certainly be odd to meet and see any of you guys in person.

I'd especially feel weird being addessed as Nyran in person (It'd also be really really cool)

Over 23 years, I've moved houses about... 7 times? I dunno. None were anywhere far from the last, so none of them have really been a big deal.

@Nyran: Where does the name Nyran come from then? o.O

I thought they were non-poisonous. I got bit once and didn't feel anything other than the bite. Or maybe they could transmit a disease if they bit someone.
Title: Re: General chat (no spam allowed)

They only emit a tiny amount of poison. Most of the time it's just slight woozieness, but you can still get bit and not feel anything, but the bight.

Hehe. I'm getting better, but I really hurt someone I care about. I broke up with my boyfriend, even though he's a wonderful person. It was just too much for me, and it was weighing me down emotionally. It hurts to be with someone who is deeply depressed, even when I tried. He then went off to commit suicide. I got a friend of mine in Canada to call the police, and we had a long talk afterwards about all the hurt... We're just going to ignore each other for a while. Hopefully, it'll help him move on. There's a lot more that I'm not talking about here, but it was a whirlwind for me. I just can't handle the thought of people killing themselves. While I don't love him that way, I still worry.

I wonder what Sylveon is...
.
The word sylvan is an adjective: of, or relating to, a forest or wooded area. That's what's odd to me, since they already have a grass-type. If the 18th type really is going to be light, then that will probably be its type. Sylveon's name could be inspired by life itself, since forests are a great example of that aspect. My only other guess would be that it's a normal-type, and simply inhabits forests. But that would be lame.

It could also be in reference to the creature 'Sylph', small air elementals often associated with pixies or faeries given their similarities. This would make the Flying type theory even more solid.

^lol.

The Sylph thing makes sense too. The main problem I have with that is that it doesn't really have any glaring physical characteristics of a flying-type, while all other Eeveelutions are very obvious. However, I'm definitely not against them if they're trying to go against the grain here. It would be nice if they did so more often to make things more interesting.
Title: Re: General chat (no spam allowed)
Post by: Nyran on March 03, 2013, 07:16:10 AM
Well, Shaymin Sky Form was a pretty different flying type.

I'm sure Sylveon could always use it's ribbon and hail loopy things to fly.

Propeller ribbons. It flies backwards :D

Also, Shaymin's ears quite obviously resemble wings if you ask me.

The other possibility I've heard of for Sylveon's type was that it'd be a new 'fairy' or 'light' type, based off of the fact that it doesn't really match any existing type, and because its japanese and other foreign names are based from the word 'nymph', which is a type of fairy that, unlike Sylph, has no connection to flying.

I love Twilight. I've seen every movie in real life multiple times. I've read all the books at least 4 times. I collect the Twilight figurines. I roleplay as an emotional vampire on another site. I also sparkle in the sunlight.

They only focus on the past and the short term. I'm talking about people who care about what the future will be like and try to make it better. People who will take longer and work harder to do things right instead of a quick fix.
Title: Re: General chat (no spam allowed)

We still need to keep ideas from the past, both bad and good, so that we can learn from them. If a past idea would work today and tomorrow, why not use it? Some people who are "stuck in the past" might actually have a point.

Plus, government can NEVER make things better. People do that on their own, when the government doesn't interfere.

I think it depends on state laws these days actually. I think my state has public gun-carrying licenses, but I don't know for sure. The way people are around here, it wouldn't surprise me. Lots of gun-hating hippies in my state lol.

I think you need a license to own a gun, but to carry a weapon around, in my state anyways, it's legal as long as long as it's not concealed.  I have a friend who enjoys wearing his buck knife on his hip.       Oh, but you can't take weapons into schools and most buildings.

I'm very sorry to hear that.   It saddens me that most women feel unsafe when not at home or surrounded by trusted friends/family.  It's a feeling of unease that I think all women feel, including myself, to a degree.    I had an unfortunate bout of idiocy when I was younger when I thought nothing bad could never happen to me. Thankfully it was accompanied by a large amount of luck.  But there are women who are not lucky, which makes it a truly scary thing.  I wish the best of luck for you Star.

The real underlying problem is that people in general, not just women, aren't being taught how to protect themselves, nor are they being taught how [some] people really are in the real world. Especially teenagers. When they're out and about on their own, they're easy targets.

@Scorpio;   :78:  Rescuing someone with a... 3 inch knife is easier said than done.  A dagger is more affective unless the assailant has a gun.

@Star M.;  They are also being taught to use evasion instead of action in a dangerous situation.  That isn't always the best thing to do, although some school systems would beg to differ.  Giving danger a face instead of gauging everyone can also be a problem.

Unfortunately there are a lot of teenagers who prefer experience over advice.  You can't try everything and walk away unscathed.

You are your own worst critic.  Try to find someone you share a common interest with and work your way up from there.  Friendship takes time to develop and care to sustain.  It can take a little while before an acquaintance becomes a friend.

@Scorpio: Sadly I haven't been able to find a person with common ground. At least I do have one Best friend. I am happy for that, but I just kinda wish I had at least one-two more. Then there are the different people who listen better to different things.

Title: Re: General chat (no spam allowed)

Well... I'm not depressed by that.     But yes having a set image of the "perfect girl" is very much horrible.    I think the tooth pick image is more damaging than the big breasted one, though.   It leads to girls trying to "fix" themselves in various harmful ways, while having smaller breasts can only be changed with push-ups or implants.

Yes, but the body's weight can be changed easily, while a girl's breasts are just the way they are for life. I hat that girls are getting bullied for something they cannot help.

Am I the only one who hasn't seen this happen? I've seen various things where it could be considered implied (even in Disgaea, but it's mostly for teh lulz), but I've never seen any media actually pushing this idea.

Or, I'm just not exposed to enough media to have an informed opinion, seeing how I live under a very large rock (it's probably for the best anyway).

Tell me about it.  During one of my classes a friend of a classmate was complaining about being "to fat" when she weighed around 142 pounds and was slimmer than any girl in the room.

Ugh.  California girls are the worst.   Walking through the locker room is torture.  Listening to the dancers complaining about being fat when you can clearly see their ribs.    At least in other areas when I suffered through those conversations, the people weren't usually already painfully skinny.

:))    Everyone has their tastes.     Overly skinny people just scare me because they feel so breakable.  Besides that, I'm not really picky about weight.   I guess I would date a super skinny person.... just wouldn't rough house with them, and no, I don't mean that in a dirty way.

I was relatively disappointed that Isaac is not a playable character in SSBfN3DSaWU, it seems the franchise is practically dead at this point.

Our negative attitudes about Camelot being unable to produce a good GS game of the modern age is putting that nail deeper in.

Most notable was a Monty Python sketch portraying Spam as both ubiquitous and inescapable, characteristics which lent to its name being borrowed for unsolicited electronic messages, especially spam email. Title: Re: General chat (no spam allowed)
Post by: Ailanthus on September 04, 2015, 09:32:46 PM
So, I've kind of had an idea for a thread in mind for a while and all these project threads popping back up has got my interest in making it, rise again.

I mean, not that there is a whole lot of us, but it seems everyone around is working on various things.
The idea is that it's basically a compiled list of everything everyone is currently working on, with links to their respective threads.
The point of it is to keep the threads for the projects as huge info dumps and whatever images/updates can be posted for it.
While this main thread is going to serve as a place for any questions, general discussion, tips, and whatever about them.
As well as maybe announcement posts to bump it.
With luck, the plan is to have all the threads easy to find instead of having to dig through the dustier parts of the forum just to update, and to keep those threads free of clutter and off topic stuff.
As well as serve as a reminder to keep us working on those projects.

The structure would be like a short snippet explaining what the thread is for, then the lists.
So, then all anybody has to do is post what their project(s) are and I'll edit it in.

It'd kinda look like this:

>Username<
 =Books
  ->Book name< : >(Maybe include type/genre of book/whatever it is here)<
  ->(Placeholder Book name)< >(Type)<
 =Video Games
  ->Game name< >(Genre)<
 =>Whatever other category<
  ->You get the idea<
With each name being a link to that project's thread if it has one.

I really like the idea, just not sure of a few things.
1. If anyone is even interested
2. If there's really enough of us/projects going on to warrant it
3. If it'd even actually work out as planned

I'd also include a link to it in my sig. Since I still post fairly often, this'd make it so it's always super easy to find the list, and consequently your own threads for whenever you want to update or wanna re-read someone else's stuff.
So, what do you guys think ?
Title: Re: General chat (no spam allowed)
Post by: Star Magician on September 05, 2015, 04:55:05 AM
I don't think we have enough projects or users for that to be necessary, but if we do get more members with projects to share, then yeah.
Or better, there could be a "user-created content" exclusive subforum.

Yep. I could probably list the number of active creators on this site on one hand.

Yeah... :32:

Still, some sort of directory somewhere wouldn't be a bad thing.

I'm now in serious semi-crippling pain 24/7 after a severe back injury on October 11th.  My company was at fault and it's borderline irresponsible negligence on their part just so they could save a few bucks that they keep losing through outdated, idiotic, and frankly baffling business decisions.  Now people are trying to start a union movement,  which will complicate my life needlessly further by destroying all the set in place rules and playing favorites like all unions do.

To top it all off, my depression is worse and the frustration of it all is giving me sharp chest pains semi regularly.  Not been a fun couple of months.

That's the one thing that won't happen. Things cost too much and people pay too little.

Not much I can do as a guy on the internet, but I hope your life gets good enough for your pain to go down, physical or otherwise

It will if I hurt myself worse later on. I'm dumb, so I'm banking on it.

Do you know what makes Christmas more fun? Not random bouts of depression, but that's what I've been doing.
