Title: Chaos Rising Part 1: A Battle For Who's Sake?
Post by: Scorpio on August 22, 2013, 05:30:50 AM
"Why are you here..." A young man named in dark clothing is stalking a group of angry soldiers. They appeared to be hunting something, and the youth wanted to know what.

"There she is! Kill her on sight!" The soldiers grabbed a young girl and knocked her to her knees. "I was told to kill you... But I was never told how I had to do it..." Their leader said, pulling a long, thin blade out of his belt. It was clearly a flaying knife. "Now, little bird, sing. What is your name?"

"I... I think it's Allyssa... Please let me go... Sir..." The girl was on the verge of tears, but their captain only laughed. "I'm not doe with you yet, sweet dove. I want you to sing for me!"

"I think she's wearing leather armor," one of the soldiers said. "Very well," said the captain, "remove her outer layer of armor, cloak and all." The soldiers smirked at her as fear welled up inside.

The first man who touched her died without a sound. Then a second fell. Then a third! Fourth! Fifth! Soon, all eight men were dead leaving only the captain, who had discarded the flaying knife for a longsword.

The alley inbetween inns was dark, even though the moon was full. This was the bad part of a poor village, so it was all but abandoned.

"I am the ghost of honor." A voice rang out from everywhere and nowhere. "I am the shadow of justice. I will watch them, I will defend them, for they cannot defend themselves. I take what is mine, and what is owed. I take the lives of those whcross the line. I am... Justice!" A long, thin sword was driven through the man's chest from the shadows. The youth stepped out.

"Are you hurt?" He asked Allyssa. "I'm fine. My name's Allyssa, good sir. May I ask yours?" The maiden replied, choking back tears and fear. How did she know this man wasn't going to hurt her?

"My name's Oron. I live over in that abandoned stronghold. Which is where I'm taking you for the nigh, if that's OK with you?" "F-Fine... Sir Oron..." Allyssa's fear was subsiding for some reason. She could sense the good in this man. "Good! But just call me Oron."

The next day, Oron and Allyssa walked out to find a group of Lumina soldiers attacking citizens.

The countries of Lumina and Nox had been at war for four years, taking their bloody conflict with them to Valdur, the country in between them. They had ravaged most of its once proud villages and now were trying to tax them unjustly.

The Lumina soldiers were attacking those who refused to pay the tax. Luckily, heroes came out of the woodwork t( help.

(OK, guys, this is where you debut!)

Philos walked out calmly, his bracelet glowing a bright blue. He formed a sphere of water to lift up 3 of the Lumina soldiers. The sphere turned to ice as he crashed the ball to the ground, shattering it.

"Go back where you came from. If I'm here, you can't do any harm to the citizens without more harm to yourselves."

(Thank you, Aether.)

"Oron! Let me help!" Allyssa said as she ran into the battle. She was holding her own quite well with the large stick she found. "If you say so, Allyssa. Just don't get killed. I still have to question you about why you were here!"

"Let them go!" Allyssa shot a bolt of Wind Magic at the Lumina soldiers as Oron ran toward a man standing away from the frey. "So... You wish to die, do you? I've been waiting for you. My name is Vosch Van Valeus. I'm going to char the bone from your skin. You are justice? No. You killed my men last night. Why? I don't care. They were my men. Let us fight."

Vosch pulled out a long, thin blade from its sheath and ran toward Oron. "I'm going to kill you just the same. Tell your men 'hello' for me." Oron said, half mocking the great captain.

The clash claimed two buildings and set the dirt road on fire.

Philos noticed the two dudes about to fight. However, he felt like it would be wrong to interfere. He formed a whip of water and lashed out at more soldiers.

Ranis, remembering his king's orders, rushed into aid, slicing and dicing soldiers left and right. "I hope I am doing this right, Lord Drelys," he muttered under his breath.

"Hello, sir." Ranis saw a woman appear behind him. "You look like a smart man, so why not join me and Nox? We're going to win this war, so your power would be wasted fighting against us. My name Tahliya. You and I could... Join forces... Think about it..." And with that, Tahliya vanished.

Ranis blinked in surprise, sustaining a slight cut from one of the soldiers, whom he dispatched with consummate ease. He thought about what this Tahliya said. "What would Drelys do?" he muttered. He thought about it, but came up with nothing. He began to think about what she said while cutting down each soldier who attacked him.

Tahliya appeared behind Ranis and blasted a Lumina soldier with dark purple flames. "I'll look out for you if you need, Sir. I will need your decision soon, because  Won't be able to save your life once we win the war if you're fighting for someone else. I've been watching you for quite some time, and I've grown to... Respect you." She said as she blasted another soldier.

Vosch and Oron's duel was starting to get out of hand. They had destroyed most of the wooden buildings with their swordplay. Vosch was distracted by a face he knew too well. "Tahliya Nox... The Black Emperor's illegitimate daughter and one of his best generals... Here?" He got a slash on his face for his troubles. "Keep your eyes on your opponent, you Lumina *******!" Oron yelled as he slashed at Vosch again, but he blocked it with his own blade this time. Their clash showed no signs of stopping.

Ranis roared in frustration. "All of you just STOP!" A burst of heat and light flew from his body. He turned to Tahliya. "I apologize for my outburst. I merely have a great deal on my mind. I will join your team under one condition: Your kingdom has no hold over me. Deal?" He held out his hand.

"No. If you are with us, you must swear loyalty to my fa- I mean, The Black Emperor. You must vow never to go against him... No matter what he wants you to do. I am bound to him by blood, so I had no choice what is your answer to that, sir?" Tahliya said to Ranis.

In a bolt of flan Vosch teleported his men away and took one stab at Tahliya. She was wounded and half dead from one blow.

"I... Have to go now... We'll speak again..." With that, Tahliya vanished leaving Oron staring at all who aided the people. "You all look a little beat up. Come with me to our keep and have some dinner. I'll warn you, it's not in good condition. I will try to find you a room with a roof if you want to spend the night." Allyssa said. "OUR keep?!" Replied Oron. "Well," said Allyssa, "aren't we staying together?" "No! I only took you in because you were hurt! You still owe me an explanation!" "You'll get one after dinner." Sais the maiden.

Eclipse, The capital of Nox.

"I'm sorry I failed you, fath- I mean, my Lord! I'm sorry for the slip up! Please! Don't hurt me!" Said Tahliya to the throne.

"Oh, dear sister... Father has met a... painful end... I'm the Black Emperor now." The former prince of Nox turned around to face his half-sister. His name was Archamenel, he was known for being the strong prince, but now he was king. "I think you need to do better when sent on special missions, don't you? Men! Take her to the Pit of Sorrow! Leave her with nothing to her name but the burlap of a prisoner! Maybe that will help you learn your lesson, you worthless *******."

Corona, the capital of Lumina.

"I'm sorry I failed you... I know the things we were doing were wrong, but they are my orders. I have to do what your elder brother commands of me. I'm a captain in his army." Said Vosch Van Valeus to a barely eighteen year old girl. The girl was in a large bed wearing a loose-fitting nightgown and a circlet. She was clearly very ill, she had been since her father died, but she was still a princess, so she would always wear her circlet.

"I know you dislike those cruel things my brother has you do, but he has a good reason, he has to. Thank you for the meal and the medicine, Vosch. The medics in the citadel have no idea what's wrong with me." Isaara, the princess said.

"I'll find out, and I'll fix you. I promise." Said Captain Van Valeus. "You'd better, or we cannot get married!" Said the princess.

They spent the rest of the night laughing and smiling as only lovers can.

Ranis was torn. He was told to swear no allegiance to any other kingdom, but the woman looked as if she needed help. He really wished his mentor was there. He'd know what to do...

Allyssa grabbed Ranis' hand and pulled him, her petite frame disguising her strength. "C'mon! We're having dinner soon! Why not join us?!" She said as she walked and dragged Ranis toward the keep.

"Um... I have a friend who woke up the other day and forgot everything abou herself, do you have any idea how I could help her?" The young, bright-eyed girl asked Ranis. "If she does remember that she had to do something important, but nothing else. She only knows her name due to a ring she had. If she doesn't figure everything out soon, bad things will happen, she knows that much. What should... She do?"

Ranis blushed and laughed nervously. He listened to what Allyssa said and nodded several times.

"Memory loss is a dreadful thing, but can be reversed. The power of light can do many things. It is, however, a gradual process and can become annoyingly-time-consuming. I apologize for that. Who is your friend?" he said amiably.

(Goodness, that was quite some reading)

"You all look a little beat up. Come with me to our keep and have some dinner. I'll warn you, it's not in good condition. I will try to find you a room with a roof if you want to spend the night." Allyssa said.

Philos shook his head. "No thanks, I would merely be using up your supplies and I'm sure you won't have much after that fight. I'm going to be leaving this place anyway, I was merely crossing this town until I saw the citizens needing help." The gem faded to it's sea blue color and he walked back to his bag in which he kept his belongings, lying near the inn.

Allyssa grabbed Philos. "It won't be any trouble! I want to thank you for helping them!" The young maid said as she smiled at him. She then turned to Ranis. "Oh, you wouldn't know my friend if you saw her..."

Philos put his hand to his head, thinking it over. He sighed and said, "Sure, I'll accept. Don't have any plans as to what to do at the moment, so I got some time in my hands."

Ranis shrugged. "I know nobody here. You see, I come from very far away," he said. "I come from a place known as the Solar Kingdom, where I am the king's personal blade master."
Title: Re: Chaos Rising Part 1: A Battle For Who's Sake?
Post by: Scorpio on August 24, 2013, 10:20:31 PM
"The Solar Kingdom, huh? Isn't that one of the ancient kingdoms?" Asked Oron. At the mention of ancient kingdoms, Allyssa's nose started to bleed and she got a headache. "I'm sorry," said the young but strong maiden, "I don't know what happened..."

Eclipse, the capital of Nox.

Tahliya sat in her cell in a ragged, burlap dress that barely covered what she needed it to and nothing more. She had been a high ranking military officer this morning and now she was just a prisoner. "I cannot believe this... I failed... Father, mother... Forgive me." She said as she pulled the burlap lower in a futile attempt at modesty. She saw the guard posted outside her cell was drinking, and just waited for her chance. It took thre hours, but she waited  til he passed out and stole his keys and armor. She walked out of her cell and her burlap and out of Eclipse' Grand Fortress. She took her personal horse from the stables and rode. She was riding to find the only person she thought could help her, and that was Ranis.

Corona, the capital of Lumina.

"I see you've been talking to my sister again, Captain Van Valeus." Ulric Luminus, High King of Lumina. "Is it a crime to speak with one's fiance, my lord?" Replied the swordsman. "It is when you are talking treason." Said the High King. "If I've spoken treason, I'll drop dead on the floor. I've not said anything besides what I've already given to you as council, my king." "So you have... Now onto the matter at hand. You say one man defeated your entire platoon last night and then had a hand in defeating your army again earlier today? Why did you come back without his head?" Asked the monarch. "Because I refused to fight a battle where the only victory would have been at the cost of my entire force." "Very well... You are dismissed. Ut be warned, nobody fails me twice. The only reason you are alive is because my sister's wedding is politically important." "As you wish, my lord, said Vosch Van Valeus as he left th- room!

Ranis looked grave. "Yes, the Solar Kingdom is indeed an...you get the idea," he said, skirting around the words that triggered Allyssa's nosebleed. "It seems our friend here has some connection to the Solar Kingdom or perhaps the Lunar Empire. Mayhaps both." He took her hand comfortingly, as any friend would do...at least in the Solar Kingdom. "We'll figure out what caused it," he said kindly.

"I will tell you that people saw me fall from the sky... I... I don't know who I am or where I come from. I'm afraid that I'll never know, and I had something important to do..." Allyssa said with a frustrated look on her soft face. "So any ideas would be greatly appreciated!" She said, her gentle face now smiling.

"So... For all I know, you could really be a Lumina or Nox soldier?" Oron slid his blade out of his belt and pointed it to her chest. "Tell me the truth! Who are you?!" He yelled at her. "I-I told you! I don't know! Why are you doing this?!" The young woman asked fearfully. "Because," Oron said, "I thought if I put a sword to your heart, your memories would come back as your life flashed before your eyes." Oron sheathed his blade. "That was mean! I thought you were gonna impale me!" Gentle Allyssa said as she punched Oron in the arm. The two of them broke out in laughter after that.

When Oron unsheathed his blade, Ranis' hand jumped to his. When Oron returned his blade, Ranis took his hand off his.

"Worry not," he said. "We will find your purpose."

At talk of the empires, Philos tried to remember what he read in his hometown's library. However, he could not remember anything.

Philos poked at Alyssa, trying to get her attention. "Excuse me lady, but will you show us where we'll be staying?"

Post by: Scorpio on August 25, 2013, 05:30:20 AM
Allyssa smiled and grabbed Ranis' an Philos' hands and pulled them into Oron's Keep. The actual keep was just an old, burnt ruin of a once strong fortress that Oron had been living in. People said it was haunted, but Oron was the "Swordsman's Ghost" that was said to lurk there.

Allyssa showed the two to the lower levels of the keep because the roof had collapsed years ago. That was where the found a nice, long table, a working kitchen, and seven old beds. "Make yourselves comfortable, there's going to be one **** of a storm tonight." Oron told them as they sat down for a dinner of dark stew.

The night was dark and cold for Tahliya as she rode. Her inner-thigh area was rubbed raw from wearing the guards rough pants with the armor that didn't fit her legs over them. She was tired, she was cold, and now the storm was starting.

She thought back to her father, and how kind he had been to her. She was illegitimate by birth, but her father had undone that by wedding her mother. But her mother was deadl and now, so was her father. Her brother, Archamenel had seen to that personally, and now she had nothing but one, faint sliver of hope that a hero would help her. But the night was dark, and the darkness consumes hope.

Her horse collapsed out from under her, so she had to leave that and most of her armor so she could run on foot. She was left wearing boots that were too large, gloves that did not fit, and over-sized mail with an equally large shirt over it as a dress that she belted to her hips. On her back, she carried her spear "Darkheart" that she had taken from the prison.

She could see smoke, so she ran to the building only to find it in ruins. She walked the floor until she came to the stairs. She walked down the stairs, saw Oron, Allyssa, Ranis, and Philos, and then collapsed like her horse, hoping she was safe here.

Oron pulled out his blade and walked toward her. "So, Nox has sent you to deal with me and take the girl, huh? Well... What are your last words?" Oron said, pointing his sword at Tahliya. "S-sanctuary..." She replied weakly.

At that, Oron picked her up, had Allyssa take off all but her shirt, and then tucked her into bed by the fire, hoping the chills would not take her in the night.

Philos looked at the unknown woman who entered. "You say she is from Nox? What do you think she's doing here?" he said to no one in particular. He has no knowledge of government affairs and only knows as much as there are two sides fighting each other. As such, he does not have any prejudice or affection for either side. "She seems important, but she was wearing ragged clothes when she came in. Man, I'm confused."

Tahliya saw Ranis and weakly sat up. "My father, The Black Emperor Alvast, was been killed by my brother, Archamenel. I was imprisoned by him, but I escaped due to my guard's drunken state. I apoligise for my appearance, sirs and madam, I seem to only be wearing a man's shirt..."

The raven-haired girls pale white face had turned red as the flames beside her bed. "Which one of you undressed me?" She asked. "I did," said Allyssa. "But," whispered the young maiden, I gave you some underwear." Allyssa gave a small giggle. "You forgot it, it seems." At that, Tahliya fell back down and pulled the covers to her chin, blushing the entire time.

"My brother is not the man my father was." The princess explained. "He is cruel, merciless, very cunning, but most of all, he is cold. He will kill a man without reason just because he has the power to do so. Ulric Luminus has always hated my brother, so once the news reaches him, the battles will get bloodier and longer. I-" Oron but a hand on her shoulder. "Sleep. We will talk on the morrow." He said to her as she drifted out of consciousness.

Corona, the capital of Lumina.

"I'm going to ride out tomorrow, beloved." Captain Van Valeus told his bride-to-be. "Once this war is over, we will be wed. Promise me, Vosch!" The young princess said to her shining knight. "I promise we will get wed as soon as you're well, beloved." He replied tenderly. "I trust you. I must be the luckiest girl on the continent." She said as she rested her head on her ice-white feather pillow. "Come back safe, my beloved..." She added as he left the room.

Van Valeus left for the stables that night, his force of 30,000 infantry and 20,000 cavalry behind him. "We ride in the night, we sleep hidden during the day. We will take the enemy by surprise and slay all those who we do not need for ransom! Understood men?!" The captain said as he mounted his horse. 50,000 men cheered. "Then we ride!" He said as his steed dashed through the gate of Corona.

Ranis looked at Oron. "If it is alright with you, I volunteer to keep an eye on Tahliya," he said. He shrugged. "I know not what, but something is telling me it is my duty to do so. Odd, I know, but what can one do?"

Oron smirked. He only smirked like this when he had an idea, and his idea was bold this time. "Tahliya, Allyssa, Kneel. I'm going to make you my first recruits in my mercenary company. We will be known as "The Shadow of Justice!" Y'know, after one of my titles. You both owe me your lives now, so, until this war is over, we are together!" He then turned to Philos and Ranis. "You two in or what?"

The Heartroad, the path from Lumina to Nox.

"I've found her... Or at least her trail." A tall, thin man stood over a pile of discarded armor and clothing. The remains of a horse were there as well, but the wolves had gotten here before this man.

He was thin, but strong. He wore a  bright red cloak with gold flame trim, a red tunic with gold flame trim, grey pants, black boots and gloves with gold flame trim and metal work. A gold belt clasped around his hips held a red and gold sheath which held red and gold blade with red steel it the shape of a flame. This was one of the ancient swords. He had spiky, red hair, tan skin, and red eyes.

"No... That's not who I'm looking for after all... Oh well, back to square one, I guess..." The man said as he walked down the road.

"I will join, so long as I am not forced to pledge allegience to any nation or kingdom," he said. "I remain loyal to my lord, King Lumbrus."

"You will pledge no loyalty to any king or country, just to me as commander, to your brothers and sisters in arms, and to the innocents who cannot defend themselves." Oron said, standing proud. "We are out to put an end to this war, even if it means dying to stop the bloodshed. Do you still want to join?"

Eclipse, the capital of Nox.

"Welcome, generals," Black Emperor Archamenel said as two powerful warriors walked into the throne room and kneeled. "Sonya," he said looking at a woman in full, crimson and silver armor. She had grey pants underneath, and her hair, done in a braid that reached her back, and eyes were the color of blood. "I'm glad to see you again, but I believe you're wearing more than las we met." He said. "As are you, my lord." She replied.

"Stavros..." Archamenel said to a man in a dark green longcoat, black pants, boots, cloves, belt and shirt with long, brown hair and blue eyes. "I thought you would be the one not to show..." "It's nice to see you still know who I am, Emperor." The Assassin said.

"You counted me as absent without checking the shadows, my lord." A man in black, grey, dark purple, and gold robes stepped out of the shadows. He pulled his hood down to reveal hair that matched the purple of his robe, pale skin, and one blue eye and one red eye. "Stellius," Archamenel said. "Must you always do things like that? I grow tired of Lumina's existance in my world. I'm sending each of you out with an army to end this war. Now begone."

They were leaving the room when Sonya was called back. "Sonya. I need you to send one of the Bloodknights to deal with my sister. Sje has escaped from her cell, and is bound to find allies who will help her get revenge on me. Make sure that does not happen." "Yes, my beloved lord... But..." She said smiling. "Is there anything else we could do afterwords?" "Anything you want after you send the Bloodknight." Will do, my lord."

Sonya walked out of the room, up the stairs, and into the room of Sir Vyrden Dracule the Impaler. "You have your target, fly at first light." said Sonya. "Will do," said the Impaler as he took off for his wyvern. Sonya, however, took off for the Emperor's chambers.

(I dunno where to start so I'll start alone)

"So we meet again." a shady woman stood in front of a young man.

"So it seems." the young man summon his scythe by the wind's power. He readied himself for the first attack. Suddenly the woman was gone. He knew this trick quite well. To play a little game with the woman he decided to do a spin attack.

The woman smirked as she saw that he had forgotten her trick, but the smile soon faded as she realized to late. The young man brought his scythe up above his head slicing the air above him, narrowly missing the woman. The woman brought her short blade down on the scythe and backflipped away from the young man.

"You really need to stop using old tricks if you want to get anywhere." the young man said cockily.

"Oh I haven't even started yet." The woman replied. The woman was suddenly gone but the suddenly in front of the young man. The young man swung his scythe and the woman turned to dust.

"A fake? Now this is new." The young man smiled. New things were always fun, but also extremely old things are fun as well. The young man decided to do something he hadn't done in a while.

The woman smirked again as the young man fell for her trick. She used the guise to hide in the shrubbery at the side of the path and prepare a long distance attack. She was about to shoot it when she noticed a small trail of wind stirring up dust around the young man. The small trail of wind turned into a blade of wind cutting through grass and small bushes. 'something new?' she thought. 'No...it's' her eyes widened as she realized what he was doing. She tried to move, but it was too late. She was swept into the path. She grasped her left arm in pain.

"You remember this don't you?" the young man said slowly walking up to the woman in a menacingly manner. "Haven't done it in a while, but I still seem to have it."

"Yes. I do, Kenneth. What are you waiting for? Get it over with." the woman replied. The young man apparently named 'Kenneth' was slightly confused for a moment.

"What do you-Oh! Right! I completely forgot, sorry." Kenneth called upon the healing winds to heal the woman. The woman got up and stuck out her hand.

"Thank you for another fun fight. It was short, but it was still very energizing." the woman smiled. Kenneth took her hand and shook it.

"Your Welcome. It's not everyday that I get to fight an opponent like you." and with that the woman turned, waved goodbye and suddenly disappeared. Kenneth sighed. All he could do was follow the trail forward and so he did unknowing what was to come.

Ranis, waiting for Philos to open the door, began to think about his home again. How was Lumbrus? Drelys? Bosul? All his friends were still in the Kingdom, potentially under attack from the Lunar Empire.

Kenneth was walking on the pathway when he heard marching. He quickly dove into the bushes fearing he would be seen. He was peaking out when they passed by and Kenneth realized that these people weren't the ones looking for him, but they still looked dangerous.

The army following Kenneth vanished in a stroke of heat. A lone man walked over to him. "They're gone, kid. I got rid of 'em. The name's Enric Etherius Infernus Valdonius, but just call me "Enric". What's yours?" The man asked, holding his hand out in shaking position.

This man was the same man who was traveling the Heartroad earlier, the one who's looking for someone.

"I have to find someone, and I saw your fight. You'd be a great ally. You do owe me your life, after all. Those were 100 Lumina outriders. The rest of the soldiers will not be happy with the man they saw on the road, meaning you. They will come after you if you do not follow me to the next town." Enric said, drinking a warm, sweet, red wine.

Ranis had quite a bit on his mind. He wandered about until he found his new commander's room. He nervously knocked on the door, hoping he'd answer.

Ranis lnocked, and the door opened. He saw a room that looked like it belonged to a war-hardened general. There were maps, markers, and charts on all the tables, and on one wall there was just one framed picture. It was of Stavros, one of the greatest generals in Nox history.

"Why are you here?" Asked Oron.

"You see," Enric said to Kenneth. "I have to find a friend of mine. She got lost on the way to our destination, and I'm afraid someone has found her. I've been looking for her, but I've not been having any luck. By the way, I'm looking for my little sister, Ellysia. Why are you here... Oh, look! An inn!" Enric grabbed Kenneth and ran inside.

"Two rooms, please." Enric said as he payed for the best rooms in the inn.

He idly picked up a wooden sword and inspected it.

"You don't have to worry, Kenneth. As long as you're with me, you're protected by the Old Laws." Enric said as he took another swig of his wine. "Did you want any? I know Elysia hated the stuff, but she just never liked the clove in it."

Enric sat down in the corner, pulled out a lyre, and sang The Blade in the Night.

A man, a man he strode alone
Upon the road most feared by men
The man, the man he walked alone
To fight a foe most fearsome

And who are you, oh lonely knight
But a single blade lost in the night
A sword and shield are you are
And I am king of men

Rage, rage against my shield
Rage, rage against my sword
Rage, rage but you shant pass
You rage will die here, my lord

When he finished, he sat and ate the food he had ordered for the two of them.

Philos did not answer the knock that came at his door. The man he just met has invited him into a group. A similar event happened a while ago, but not too long that he would forget.

Philos just began his journey when he saw smoke appear somewhere in the forest in front of him. Curious, he went to take a look. When he arrived at a clearing, he saw men clothed in leather armor surrounded by dead people dressed like the bandits Philos fought. One man, who he presumed to be the leader, had his sword against the neck of the last living enemy. "Tell us the location, and you might live to see another day," the leader said. Shaking, the wounded man said, "It's with a boy. Yes, and his village is only a mile south from here! I can lead you if you want!" The bandit began to stand up, but the next second his head was rolling across the ground, coming at Philos. Philos stared at the head, shocked at it's lifeless eyes. The leader saw Philos, and took a small glimpse at his arm, where the bracelet was at. Silence followed for a few minutes and the man said, "Hello boy. Sorry to have you see this. You see, these bandits were trying to ransack the town south of here. Luckily, we overheard this and managed to stop their plans.

The leader held out his hand, with a smile that lured Philos over. "Why don't you come join us, on an adventure that will change your life?"

(I just made this up right now, wanted a reason for Philos's hesitation. I'll add more to the story at points I feel it would be good.)

Kenneth shook his head. "You don't know that! There are wanted posters EVERYWHERE for me. If anybody sees my face they'll notice. I can't fight  them off. I don't like killing the innocent! I need something. A mask. Anything! Only then will I feel safe......oh and no. I'm supposedly not old enough to drink, and besides I'd rather not fight with alcohol in my system. It's not going to do me any good." Kenneth was covering his face. Nobody could really recognize him by anywhere else on his body. The wanted poster over on the board over on the wall showed only his face and his face only, but Kenneth could not keep his hands over his face the whole time.

I never heard any rumors of any other Magik out there. I may be only light in the areas of Wind magic, but seriously! Anybody who can do that is amazingly talented. And..I meant it's the purest drink you can get. It doesn't effect your body in that much of a harmful way. It may be tainted water and cause some minor dysfunctions, but It's better to drink than any other drink out there, except maybe fruit juice and even then it could still be questionable. So I'll just stick to water." Kenneth sat back down in his chair and began to twirl a small tornado on his index finger to pass the time.

(I'm bored so gonna make up part two of the story)

Philos wasn't tired yet though. He looked out the window and gazed at the night sky. The moon looks just like it did back then...

Philos decided to accompany the group, who he was told were a famous group of mercenaries. They were going to an ancient sanctuary where a powerful treasure was said to be hidden. The leader, Syth, watched Philos each night, examining everything he does. One night, Phillos was about to sleep when he heard Syth and another man talking.

"... him, before he can discover what we're doing."
Syth replied, "No, it chose him, he needs to be there."
The other man groaned. "I doubt this will work out..."
Syth grunted, "Just get back to your post, soldier."

Philos figured there were just some bandits outside and causing the group trouble. He looked outside the flap of his tent and stared at the moon. It's glistening light was shining on him, he felt like. He readjusted his blanket to sleep with the moon on his face. The night sky, with it's glistening lights, started to fade to complete black.

(The whole thing was a flashback btw. He didn't go to sleep in the actual story yet.)

"Nice." Ororn said as he kicked up another sword, then another. He caught one in his hand, but the other one got kicked towards Ranis. It fell to the ground when it was blasted with a gust of Wind.

"Bloodknight! There's a Bloodknight looking for Tahliya!" Allyssa said with panic in her voice. "Sorry, Ranis. We'll have to pick this up again later." Oron said as he ran towards the door.

"Hello." Tahliya said as she walked into Philos' room. "I'm worried that my brother is going to attack you people. If it comes to that, I think I should turn myself in... Right..?" She asked Philos.

The wyvern landed in the center of the town, or what was left of it, and started hissing. "Still, Australis." The rider said as he pulled out a lance. Three more wyverns landed, one clad in armor that carried Sir Dracule, the commander of the squad.

"Kill all who resist you!" Dracule roared and two of his men roared back. "What's the matter, lad?" Said one of the riders. "You don't like being among the most feared of all warriors?" "No, that's not it," said the man named Sir Stellius Valorum, but he was known by "Demon's Bane just as well. "I don't believe that these people have broken a single of our emperor's laws, so they need no punishment until they do." He said. "You think you can disobey me and get away with it?" "I heard your question, but you don't need to know the answer because you had to ask." Enric said. "I told you, the Old Laws will keep you safe... Especially is someone knows the Ancient Magicks... You see, I'm the Crown Prince of Vidofnir, an Ancient Kingdom from beyond your little continent. It's one of the Floating Islands. And if your ever looking for a fun time, I'll take you drinking with the Daughters of the Forest. They don't have men, so it gets fun." Enric chuckled and went back to his wine.

An arrow almost hit Tahliya, but she dodged. She kept flipping and slashing to keep enemy soldiers at bay. "I will bring your head to you brother! He'll make me a lord for that!" Dracule said. "I shant let you lay a finger on her! I was given the name of "The Hammer of Dawn" for a reason, Dracule!" Oron kept cutting down man after man until he got two the infantry commander. "Ya wanna fight, lad? Ya got yerself a fight!" he said as he slammed a giant wr hammer at Oron. Oron dodged and threw a knife at the infantry commander named Olaf.

Olaf and Oron continued to clash on the ground as the Bloodknights clashed in the sky. Tahliya let loose firebolt after firebolt, but the kept coming. She looked beside her to find General Van Valeus standing next to her. "You will survive if you tell Lumina everything you know. I will make sure you and your sworn man are given lands and a castle. Servants, steeds, weapons... You'll have everything you need." He told her.

"Yes. Everything but freedom. Die, Lumina dog!" She said as she lunged at him. He general dodged the blow with ease.

"I really do not wish to hurt you, my lady. I have a princess at home, my fiance. I know your brother would do the same thing for her, so I will show mercy to you and everyone who lays down their weapons."

"That's not how it's going to work, Valeus." One of his own men stabbed him in the back. "A wedding gift from Ulric Luminus, High King of Lumina and rightful ruler of the continent of Zephyr." The soldier walked off, leaving Vosch bleeding on the ground.

"Men!" Said a different Lumina soldir. "Our commander was stabbed in the back after offering peace! Leave none alive!"

The battle was interrupted by an explosion of Light and Dark. Olaf was found in a crater, amd Oron was now holding a sword longer than he was tall by a good two feet. "Duck!" Allyssa told her allies. "DIE!!!" Oron said as he spun the blade around, slaying all the army but Dracule who came crashing to the ground in a tangle of metal and wyvern. Stellius had been victorius, but had lost his home in the process.

The battlefield was in ruins, only a select few were left standing thanks to Allyssa's intervention. Oron collapsed from exhaustion after using such power.

"My lady!" Stellius ran to Tahliya, his strong face now lacking one of his crystal blue eyes. A scar now ran down his strong face, his golden hair ran down his left side to cover it now. "Oh, Stellius!" She hugged her sworn man, her childhood friend. "I was worried they had killed you, brother!" Stellius smiled at his sister-in-law.

"Looks like we've come to late for the battle, Kenneth." Enric said as he walked through the wreckage. "This man is wounded, we should tend to his wounds, lest he die of them!"

Enric Wlaked next to Vosch Van Valeus and lit a large fire on him. The flames burst into a golden phoenix and the general stood up. "What happened?! Where am I?!" He sprang up and ran to put his balde to Kenneth's throat. "Tell! Me! Everything!"

Enric spun and slashed Van Valeus with the Ancient Greatswor at his hip. The general countered and dropped in pain. "You have never felt the pain of the great flames, have you, sir?" Enric said as he sheathed his blade. Van Valeus tried to get up, but fell to one knee in pain.

"Hello, Sir Ranis." Enric said to the swordsman. "Would you mind helping me carry the general into your keep?" Enric paused and turned to Ranis. "Before you ask, I know more than that, I'm... Not from here."

Allyssa carried the bleeding, bruised, and exhausted Oron back to his bed. She started to heal him without really knowing how she knew what to do. "Maybe I was a priestess in my old life? If so, that makes what I'm feeling about my shining knight here wrong..." She thought as she left him to his rest.

"I wish I knew who I was... What if I really am evil? What if I end up hurting my shining knight and my new fr -- allies. My new allies." She gave a sigh as she rested her head on her knees.

Corona, capital city of Lumina.

"You see, sister," High King Ulric said to the sick princess. "Your fiance, General Vosch Van Valeus was... He fell in battle earlier today. He and all the troops he brought to the battle with Nox... I wanted to be the one to tell you, sister. No one else would have been kind to you while they broke the news. I know you loved him, I'm so sorry he was killed by Nox... I promise you, I'll get revenge." The High King let the room with a smirk on his face. "Just as planned." He thought as he walked away.

Kenneth sighed. "If he's not dead yet then we aren't too late." When the blade was next to his throught he was tempted to summon his blade right into the enemy's stomach, but soon the sword was away from his throat and on the ground with Van. Kenneth scurried to the wounded man. He closed his eyes and called the healing winds upon the wounded man.

General Van Valeus looked at them. "You people are not Lumina or Nox soldiers... Very well then..." He got to his feet and started walking the Heartroad. "I have a High King to assassinate."

He was stopped by Tahliya. "Why would Ulric  want you dead, sir?" The runaway princess said. "I have reason to believe he's trying to kill my fiance, his sister. She's actually the heir because Ulric is illegitimate. He is acting ruler until she recovers and her heir if she dies without having a child. I was her one and only, and with me 'dead' she'll not fight as hard to survive. Our wedding was the only thing she had to look forward to..." The sworn guardian of the princess said with sorrow in his voice.

"Then we will save her. Nox made it personal, Lumina made it personal. We will fight them both. We will win. Who's with me?" Oron said as he stood up on his own two feet.

Just then, Enric ran over to Allyssa, knocking Oron over in the process. "Elysia! I've found you, sister! Let us be off now, your ceremony awaits!" He said to the confused girl. "Who? I think you have the wrong girl." Shae said back to him. "So... You've lost your memories? I'll help you." He put his hand on her head and she started to remember everything.

"Allyssa? Elysia? I have two different sets of memories. Why?" She asked Enric. "Because you're to receive the power of the ancients through the sword, 'Zephyrus'. You were chosen from the streets of Zephren itself to carry the holy blade in battle! You have both your mrmories, and those of Zephyrus' last carrier." Enric said to the petite-built, gentle, young maiden who could not believe her ears.

"Me? A... Hero..?" She said in disbelief.

"Th - Thank you, Sir Ranis. I'll never forget your kindness." She said as she hugged him. Enric smiled and pulled a blade off of his belt. He had hidden this one from Kenneth, though not well, and Kenneth probably knew about it. "Take your blade, sister. Take it and ascend to greatness!"

Allyssa, as she wanted to be called due to her dislike of becoming one with a weapon, unsheathed the blade and... Nothing happened. It was just a sword. "What did you expect?" Enrid asked her. "You've already bonded with it, now you just need to use it."

"Then," Oron said. "Are we all in this as a group? If anyone wants out, leave!"

Eclipse, capital of Nox.

"Hmm... Dracule failed?" Arkamenel said as he paced his chambers. "Then I will use the Llody Hunters to finish the job. Soldier! Contact Vjorj RedRiver. I need his axe again."

(Philos is in his room so he didn't really experience any of that.)

Philos sighed. Looks like there will be no rest tonight, he can't sleep at all. He looked outside to the other guys. It seems Alyssa got a sword, hopefully she knows how to use it. They all seem happy, no sign of decievement...

A week later, Philos and the mercenary group arrived at a very old looking stone temple. There were cracks in which spiders were making their webs. Syth climbed to a level part of the temple, overlooking his men. "Here we are boys! And the treasure inside awaits us!" The party cheered. Philos was curious, what is in this place that's so special? Syth grinned and jumped down, then led the group in the entrance. The temple looked small on the outside, but that was because the bulk of it was underground. Philos stared at the skeletons beside him. Some skulls were cracked open. Is there a beast guarding this place, like in the fairy tales he read? Or maybe some swinging traps that'll split your head clean off. Whatever it is, the men were wary of it, taking cautious steps and searching every nook and cranny for booby traps or treasure. Strangely nothing was shown and they reached a dead end. Syth looked to Philos, "Come here, boy. You have the most important task of all. In fact, you're the key to this treasure! How lucky are you, huh?" At the end Syth took a look at the eager mercenaries. They seem so relieved to have made it this far, so happy to be at the end...

Corona, capital of Lumina.

"I'm sick of waiting for the High king's orders... Kill this... Kill that... Enough! Men! We're going to do exactly what we know is right from now on! We'll kill anyone who says otherwise!" One of the knights of Lumina's castle, the Radiant Guard, named Orion Lightbringer said as he rode back and forth in front of his troops.

"We ride, men! I will put up with this tyrany no longer! We ride to freedom!"

With that, they left Corona with hope of riding out of Lumina.

Oron and his mercenary group ate dinner and packed up their stuff and left Oron's Keep for Lumina. They couldn't travel the Heartroad, Vasch Van Valeus had told them that too many armies would be traveling that road. He took them down Robber's Road, and old, rarely-used road, instead.

They broke for lunch at mid-day.

In the field, Oron and Allyssa sat over a fire, cooking a lunch that would feed a small army. "No." Allyssa said as Oron reached for a seasoning of her's. "Not that one. No. Are you sure you don't want me just to do this?" She asked as the culinary-inept mercenary reached for sugar for a soup. "Fine! You just do it! It all looks the same to me!" If I let each death of a person I was close to hold me down, I'd be... A lot darker than I am..." Enric said dreamily as he looked above him.

The group rested, having dinner in the same spot they had lunch. It was a roast lamb, onion, carrot, and fennel stew that Oron made. It tasted good enough, but it was very filling then they bedded down for the night.

The first shot rang out of the tree line like a bolt of lightning, hitting Stellius, the dragon knight in the shoulder. Tahliya screamed as they all rushed to arms. A bunch of berserkers had found them in their camp and tried to kill them in their sleep.

Oron ran out and kiled a man with ease, Allyssa tried to avoid bloodshed by trying to make peace, but she was forced to use her new blade. Enric stood over a man with his blade at his throat, the man killed himself before he could be a prisoner.

Stellius' right arm was useless, and the arrow was poisoned. He collapsed as his heart could no longer beat due to the strain of the toxic fingers squeezing it. Tahliya took out her spear and cut her way through in the name of her brother-in-law.

Oron found a fat man giving orders, but the fight was over quickly. Oron ran past the man, slashing his blade while he ran. The commander's head was now a foot away from his body.

(Nope, they're still fighting.)

Oron ran toward more soldiers, slashing and cutting down all of the men in his path. He wanted to get to Allyssa at all costs.

"Prepare to die, you worthless b******s!" Shouted one of the warriors as he cut his own chest. The blood pooled out of him and swallowed the other warriors. In a flash, they became one, horrifying, shadow-like monster with the power of 100 men.

It lunged at Allyssa as her back was facing it.

"Little, sweet Allyssa... Live for me..." Enric said as he jumped in the way of the beast's shadow lance. His sword hit the ground. He was dead.

The beast turned to find Captain Vosch Van Valeus standing with his blade drawn. He had recovered enough to fight like the Hellstorm he was named after.

In a flash of roaring flame, the beast was trapped in an inferno. Vosch ran towards the beast and jumped, sword held high above his head. "THE WORLD'S END!!!!!!!!!!!" Van Valeus slashed through the beast, killing it instantly.

Allyssa ran to Enric's side, hoping to heal him. "Get up! C'mon! Tell me how I can save you!" The maiden cried, trying to revive him. "Just... Live for me... Allyssa... Oron, take... Care of her... Kenneth... My blade is your's now... Weep not for me... I knew this was going to happen for a year now... Just don't forget me, OK... Find... The... Sacred... Blade... Oron..."

With his last words said, Enric the Dawnbringer breathed his last. And, as if the world itself was mourning the extinguishing of his bright flame, it started to rain as the sun rose.

Oron dropped to his knees and dug a grave for Enric with his own bare hands. He bled and wore through both his skin and gloves, but in the end, a proper grave was dug.

"I'll lower him in... I'm sorry, Allyssa... I failed him and Stellius... I had hoped I'd not have to dig another grave..." He said before being cut off.

"You will not need another grave, sir." Stellius said as he stood up, despite the fact he was dead two hours ago. "Do not ask how, Just know that I have... Ways... I could have saved Enric, but he cas an enchantment on his corpse, probably years ago so no one could... Use his corpse as an undead soldier." Stellius said as he walked away to check on Tahliya.

Vosch Van Valeus chanted something in the Olde Tongue, most likely a funeral hymn, as they lowered Enric. The Captain said something else in the Olde Tongue as he was being covered, fusing a sword to the ground where he was buried. Allyssa was still in a state of shock.

"Ranis!" A young girl ran out in front of him. "You sound like you hate the world you live in. Follow me, Kiery will show you a world of peace and harmony so you never have to fight again! Just don't tell the people you meet that Kiery came to you! Kiery would get in trouble! Kiery found you starving in the Burning Mountains and decided to save you, OK?"

The young girl's mis-matched eyes widened! "My sister is here with her brigade! They will think you're trying to hurt Kiery! Kiery will protect you, Ranis!"

"This was a mistake," said Oron as he put on his longcoat and pulled up its hood. "I worked best alone. Who am I really fighting for? Why do I need you people? You'd just slow me down. I'm going to get my revenge. Alone. I have no need for millstones." With that, Oron walked away.

"I will NOT bury another one!" Oron thought as he walked down the road. "I got them so wrapped up in idealism that they forgot about their pain! and look where it got Enric! I almost cost Stellius his life as well! I must do this alone..."

"My... White...Knight... Is gone..?" Allyssa looked with a blank face, showing no emotion. "I... Am... Alone now..? Why am I so... Cold..?" Allyssa fell to her knees and just stared emptily at the horizon, wishing she had never let Oron leave her, or let Enric, her parents, and her sisters leave her.

"Silly Ranis! Kiery is talking to you... Kiery is not good at the New Tongue, so Kiery talks wrong... Kiery's sorry..." The young girl said looking at her feet.

An arrow shot past Ranis' head. "That was a warning shot." A beautiful, full figured, woman with deep tan skin, silver hair, and the same red and purple mis-matched eyes that Kiery has stepped out of the tree line. "Why are you talking to him, Kiery? You know it is forbidden to speak with the likes of these people. All they care about is blood. He'd probably kill you before he'd marry you."

"As for you," The woman of 20 named Kiara said as she pulled out her rapier. "Leave now. Never speak to Kiery again. If you do, I'll kill you."

"Big sister?" Kiery said.

"Yes, little one?" Kiara replied.

"Kiery invited these people to Kiery's home so they could mourn their friend in safety."

"... Fine. Come with me. All of you." The beautiful fencer said as she walked to the trees.

When the sister had pulled out the rapier, Ranis looked her coldly in the eyes. "I do not kill without a reason, and typcially, that reason is to protect the innocent. Now sheathe your blade, I refuse to fight you." He said all this as calmly as possible.

"What you believe to be innocent is wrong. I would know, I've seen the work you and your people do. You are as evil as anyone you claim to be fighting." Kiara said as she gave Ranis an Icy stare. "However... My little sister gave you leave to come to our home... You do know that Kiery and I are the Princesses of the Forest, right?"

Allysson stood up and forced a smile. "Then what are we waiting for? I'm in charge now, and I say "LET'S GO!!!" She walked over to Kiara. "Please, do not judge us for the actions of others. It is not fair."

"... Yes... That was rash of me. Forgive me, all of you. Please. I lost my cool because of what's been happening to my people at the hands of yours. Perhaps we can settle this without war?" Kiara smiled a radiant smile. "Besides... Don't we have a wedding to plan? I'm just kidding, Kiery, he's too old for you."

"Awwww... OK, sis..." Kiery said as she kicked the dirt and Kiara laughed.

Ranis took offense to what Kiara said. "You've obviously no knowledge of the Solar Kingdom!" Then, he heard what else she had to say. "Ah, I apologize for my outburst. Allow me to formally introduce myself. I am Ranis, personal blademaster of His Majesty, King Lumbrus, mighty and just ruler of the Solar Kingdom, the epitome of the sun." He drew a deep breath as he said all this dramatically and with only one breath.

The group was surrounded by Kiara's brigade with no way to escape. "Sorry, but we have to make sure you don't attack anyone and that nobody attacks you until we get to Evenfall, the castle I call home. Also, I am the queen, not the princess, Kiara's just bad at the new tongue because she's just started learning it." Kiara said as she smiled at her group.

"But be warned, the Daughters of the Forest adhere to the Olde Laws. Do not do anything until we have all had a drink from the same glass. That will protect you." She said, carefully so as to not offend anyone.

Ranis was unable to hear anything as he was still being haunted by the death of everybody he loved twenty years ago. Their cries for help, their bloodcurdling screams, the sounds of their lifeless corpses falling to the ground all filled his ears and the sight of their frightened faces, his father's final smile, and their lifeless corpses on the ground in strange positions filled his eyes. The horrid smell of corpses filled his nose. He was locked in his memories, haunted by them.

"What is the problem, Sir Ranis?" Stellius asked as he and Tahliya walked up. Stellius now covered one of his eyes due to the bleeding he had sustained, and Tahliya's tunic was torn at the shoulder.

"Are you OK, Sir?" The forsaken princess asked.

Ranis didn't hear them. All he could hear was a broken promise he made to his father to protect his family at any cost. Tears sprang to his eyes. "I'm sorry, Father! I've failed you!"

Suddenly, a breeze blew through and Ranis snapped out of his memories, wiped his tears away and looked at those who had gathered around him. "What?"

Tahliya looked at him and put a hand on his face. "You're too good to be weighed down by these things and more. I wish you and I had a place to talk alone, I have ways to help. The problem with that is the fact I'd have to talk about my painful memories, and I only trust you and Commander Allysson with those." She said as she hugged him. "Be strong, Sir Ranis..."

Stellius walked off. He was bored by these things, or maybe uncomfortable, he didn't know and didn't care. He walked to the front of the lines. In his life, he was always sent to guard the van. Always. He knew his captains wanted hime dead, but he never died. He couldn't. He had a special power, a secret he'd take to his grave if he ever got one.

Tahliya blushed. People did not normally call her "Lady," since she was illegitimate by birth. Her father had legitimized her later on, but most people still disliked her and called her as many names as they could when she was young, and speak behind her back now that she's older.

"I will help you when I can, Sir." She said.

They walked into a kingdom hidden past the mountains through a secret cave. When they got there, they saw that they were no longer on their continent.

"Well," Kiery said. "We're here! Kiery's home and Kiara's. Welcome to Evenfall!" The castle was beautiful. It looked as if it was made of the finest marble, and it was carved out of a mountain. The entire mountain was made into the castle.

"This is as far from Eclipse as possible. It's so bright and shining... I find it a little unsettling..." Tahliya said.

"It's so beautiful! I wish I could stay here forever!" Allyssa said with an honest smile on her face.

"I speak with formalities because I am the queen, Sir. If I were to drop them it would be with my equal, and only one of you, Princess Tahliya, is even close to my station. Though, Captain Van Valeus is engaged to a princess, so he'd be the heir to the High King's throne, once that happened. When's the wedding, Sir?" Kiara said, sitting in her oak and iron throne encrusted with the jewels that littered the mountain at one point in time.

"We will be wed once the war is over, my Queen. I am flattered that you even asked. I know you cannot, but I wish you could attend." The Bloody Captain said while kneeling. Everyone else bowed, but Van Valeus was a soldier and a loyal lord above all else.

"I wish I could make it," Kiara said, "but your people -" "Would try to kill you and yours on the orders of Ulric Luminus." Finished the Captain. "Though, Isaara would love it here."

"I hope you people will. Evenfall will be your home while you are here. Rest tonight, and tomorrow, we'll talk." Kiara said. "Kiery, show them to their rooms. After all, they're only here because of you."

"Right away, sister!" The energetic, young girl ran ahead of the group. "C'mon! Hurry up!"

Kiara shot Philos a cold look. "The farthest place from the castle is back where you came from. You're here mostly because Kiery took pity on you people after seeing your friend die and the other leave you. She wanted to give you a safe haven, and I said she could. If you do not like it, go." She snapped at him.

"Be kind to the young boy, he's not yet old enough to know how to behave around royals, young one." Stellius said to Kiara.

"I am a queen! You will respect me in my country or you shall be forced out!"

"I've been around this world more times than I can count, I've been married seven times, and yet I'm still thought of as young by you people... Odd..." Said Stellius as he walked away.

"I'm very sorry, Queen Kiara, Stellius thinks he was born in the Dark Ages. Truth be told, we don't even know who he really is or where he comes from. He just showed up one day and my sister fell in love with him, and he, her. My sister was killed by Lumina forces, though." Tahliya said looking away from the queen when she spoke of her sister. "She... Was my twin. I feel like I lost half of myself..."

Oh, Princess Tahliya," Kiara said. "You have a good heart..."

Corona, Capital city of Lumina

"Minister Harveld. It seems my sister is building an immunity to her medicine. Increase dosage until it takes full effect." Said the High King as he looked at his table. "With pleasure, M'Lord King." Said Harveld.

Minister Harveld was an old, skeleton of a man with only a few strands of grey hair left on his head, deep, beady eyes, and a crooked nose. He walked back to his chambers and found a vial of Widow's Lament, one of the most toxic poisons known to man, and slipped it into a cup of tea. It was time to give Princess Isaara her final dose af "medicine."

When he got to the room, he heard nothing, which was odd because the princess loved to sing. He walked in thinking she was asleep, but found her sitting upright on her bed.

"Welcome, Minister Harveld." She said, smiling. "Please, sit down. I'm worried my tea is too hot, please take a sip for me." The door shut itself. "Princess, this is your medicine. I cannot take it." The old man replied. "Then just put a finger in the tea and bring it to your tongue." The princess said calmly. "I will not be badgered by you any more, child! Drink!" He commanded. "I will not drink poison, Minister Harveld. You've been trying to poison me for a year now. I know, my friend told me." "F-friend?" said the old man as all light left the room.

"I am the Ruin of Lumina. I am the Doom of Nox. I am the Blade in the darkness. I. Am. REVENGE!" A sword came down through the old man, but left without so much as a fleck of blood on it. Minister Harveld was dead, and Princess I;aara ran out the window with her new friend.

"Yes, Sir Ranis. So long as you know where you're sleeping tonight, I don't care much what you do." The queen said as she brushed her little sister's hair.

"Thanks, sis. It got all tangled in the bushes earlier and Kiery, no Me, no Myself, no I, I! I could not do it myself! Kier - um, I spoke properly in the New Tongue, sis!" Kiery was overjoyed as her sister smiled and laughed with her.

"Run along now, Kiery." She said, and when Kiery was gone, Kiara spoke to Ranis again. "Everything. Everything! I do is to keep her safe, so if you betray me and my people you're dead, but if Kiery gets hurt, you'll wish your mother had not birthed you. Clear?.. ... Sorry. I'm being overprotective of her again... I need to work on that..." The queen said as she blushed, embarrassed at her outburst.

"I'm sorry, my queen. I didn't mean to upset you." (FLASHBACK TIIIIMEEEE)

At the end of the cave, there was a statue with its hand held out. Syth grinned at Philos. "Come on now, put your amulet on the hand." Philos did so and the statue's eyes grew bright. By instinct he walked right up to the statue and took the amulet back. The light from the statue seemed to pour into him, and Philos felt a sense of power. Syth clapped slowly. "Thank you boy. "My Lady," said Ranis. "The queen trusts none of us, but that is irrelevant. I wish to speak with you." He looked at Allysson. "In private."

Tahliya all but threw Allysson out the door, then she jumped into her bed. "What did you want to 'talk' about, Sir?" She asked.

Allysson walked out of the room and over-heard two women talking about how the road is no longer safe because of the Black Knight of Nox. "He's not killed anyone yet, but he will! Mark my words!" Said one of the women.

Allysson walked back to her room to think. "I don't know if I can be strong enough to be a commander. Oron... Why did you go? I did my best! I LOVED YOU!" She said a littlr too loud. "Enric... I wish I could have saved you. You were always good to me... Why did you have to die..."

Allysson saw a small figure walk into her room. "Kier - um, I want to know if you are OK. Are you? You worried me when you screamed... I can talk if you need." The young girl said to the unsure commander.

"That's OK, Kiery," Allysson replied. "I just need time to work things out before I lose my mind."

Out in the practice yard, Stellius the Dragon Knight watched the Queen's Guard training new recruits to the army. Some would go to be part of the watchl some would be outriders, but all needed to be the best they could be with lance, shield, sword, and bow in order to join the ranks.

Ranis looked at Tahilya. "You told me you could help me battle my memories?" he said hopefully.

No, you misunder;tood me. I said I'd help you with her memories, but battles always leave scars. I'd rather help you get over them by helping you accept them and move on. You may think you've done so already, but I know you've not. I'll share first, then you tell me what I should do. It's the only way I can get a good picture of your mental state. My mother was killed by bandits when I was six. I saw her die." She said, looking him in the eyes without ever blinking.

Ranis bowed his head. "I watched my entire family die," he murmured. "I promised to protect my mother and sister by any means necessary, but I watched helplessly as they died. Then, I sustained a near-fatal wound to my side as I was in the middle of a fight. Their screams for help still haunt me. The sights of their deaths still haunt me." He was already nearly in tears.

"Then, to be blunt, stop dishonoring their memories with your sorrow! Be the man your family wanted you to be! Hold them in your hearts! Never let go! And always remember the happy times." Tahliya said, blushing.

"That was my brother's advice when my mother died, and I used it again when I lost my twin sister to a plague... My brother joined the army and was never heard from again, my real brother, not Archamenel. His name was Zephren. I miss hi so much, but now I use his advice when I think of him..." Tahliya was crying now.

"I... I'm sorry. Please tell nobody you saw me in this state." She said, wiping away her tears.

Ranis was also wiping tears from his eyes. "My mentor told me to fight in their honor and to prevent anybody from ever suffering my fate. I've done the best I can. That's what I've done. Thank you, Lady Tahliya." He then reached forward to hug her comfortingly.

Tahliya didn't know how to respond. She most definately liked the hug. It felt warm, and nice, and loving. For a minute she thought of doing this every morning as she awoke in her castle in Nox, but she stopped those thoughts in their tracks.

"Th-thank you... Sir..." She said, blushing. She could not think of anything else to say. She wanted it to last forever, but she knew she could end it or it could end badly, so she pushed Ranis away.

"Sorry... I... I... Just don't know what to say..." She said, laying her hands in her lap to keep them from grasping Ranis'.

"That is why I introduced myself. You never said your name though, so YOU are the stranger, sir. I do wish you'd listen to me. Your 'allies' are going to die soon. Most likely by my hand or my brother, Stavros'. Now you could join me and kill them for me. Then you'd officially be one of Nox's elite soldiers." Stellius said with a stone face.
"Even if I did join you I wouldn't just betray anyone like that, no matter who they are. I've had enough betrayal and I wouldn't dare do that to anyone else. Besides, why contact me about it? Not like I'm the strongest in strength or will."

"That's why. I thought you were the only one with common sense, but you seem to have let me down. I cannot harm you here because of the Old Laws, but I, or any of Nox's men, will kill you." He said as he vanished as ashes being blow away.

Confused, Philos walked over to his room. "The heck was that about. If I had sense I wouldn't have rampaged..."

Arriving at the port town, Philos awed at how much water was in one place. He examined the ripe culture, food, and all the happy people of the town. Syth tapped him on the back. "Come on kid, time to start our plan. We gotta go right to the pier." Philos followed excitedly, like a child. This man is a good guy, he thought.

As they walked to the pier, Syth explained the plan. "You remember the cave? We're going to use that power to show this city something amazing. What better place to do it then next to the sea, too?"

Ranis smiled at her. "Well, I shall leave you in peace, Lady Tahliya," he said kindly. He got up and began to leave when he turned to say something else. "And thank you for helping me."

"Don't go!" Tahliya said in a louder voice than she wanted. "I... I... Just don't want to be alone again..." She said, hugging her knees.

A slender figure appeared behind Philos. "Is it rue that you can control water?" A soft voice said. A girl with a small figure and knee-length hair. Her face was soft, but she could not help but hide. "I... Um... I'm good with my sword, but I'd like to... Duel with you. Not to the death or anything! My name is Karin... Hello..." The young woman said with a shy smile. She secretly hoped she would not screw up the duel like she had her introduction.

Ranis looked at her kindly. "Is this a problem you need to talk about?" He sat back down with Tahliya. "I'll be happy to stay here with you."

"I just don't want to be alone anymore. I'm sick of seeing people I lo... Care about leave me. Just for a minute, could we just... Stay together? Just for tonight?" Tahliya said, blushing when she spoke. She wanted to say more, but the words got stuck in her throat.

Shocked initially, Philos calmed down a bit. "I don't know. For one thing, you're a complete stranger. I don't know if I could trust you for anything, but you do seem to be sincere. The second thing is I won't just hurt someone for no reason."

Tahliya shut the door and locked it tight. She then gave a key to Ranis. "For you to come and go as you please... ... ... Will you spend the night with me? I'm very nervous here, Sir Ranis..." She said.

Karin looked at Philos, but not in the eye. She couldn't bring herself to do so. "I just saw you were a warrior, and wanted to better myself!" She said as her eyes met his. "I want to be the best, and I can only do that by winning or losing against those who are my betters! What do you say?!" Karin had a fire in her eyes. She felt safe around Philos because she knew he was just. "Will you be my rival?!"

Philos smirked a little. This was almost exactly like he was just a year ago. How things change in the blink of an eye.

"Sure, Karin. Let's go somewhere big and private though. There's no way we can fight in here." He walked to the door and pushed it open, signaling the girl to follow.

Karin ran ahead. "We can go to the practice yard! They have a dueling list! I'm so excited! You're the first person who's ever been this kind to me! You're the best rival ever! Just... Don't think we're more than that, you're... Not my type..." Karin said as she grabbed Philos by the arm and ran him to the list only to find the sun setting.

"Aaaawwww! This sucks! We aren't allowed to use the list after dark, we're not even supposed to leave Evenfall... Hey... Do you know where Allysson is sleeping tonight? I heard she's good with a sword too!I may need a new rival if you lose to me too quickly!" Karin said as she pulled Philos inside.

"HEY!!!!!!!! EVERYONE!!!!!!! IT'S DINNER TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Karin said as she ran through the castle.

"Of course I will spend the night with you, Lady Tahliya," said Ranis. "Whatever will make you most comfortable." Then, he heard that it was time for dinner. And a low grumble in his stomach confirmed the time.

Upon hearing it was dinner time, Tahliya tossed off the outfit she was wearing and put on a pair of leather pants, her boots, a black, silk shirt, and a black leather doublet. She then ran to the dinner table to find Allysson already there.

It was halfway through dinner when Kiery noticed Stellius the Dragon Knight sitting at the end of the table eating with them. When he got there and how, nobody knew. The dinner of roast vegetables and some earthy, almost nutty slices of a food unknown to the group. It only had a name in the Old Tongue, so Allysson dubbed it "Un-meat."

Philos walked to the dinner table and sat down. He sat down eating quietly, wondering about what that mysterious guy said. Everyone here will die? Is that true?

Ranis shed his light chestplate and donned a simple brown tunic. He sat at any random seat and began to gratefully eat.

The ground started to shake. The Old Laws only applied to Evenfall, so if the building fell, the Laws would be dismissed, something Stellius the Demon Sage knew all too well.

"I warned you, boy!" said the Demon Sage to Philos. "I warned you that I would kill you and everyone here if you did not kill your group! I warned you! Now, I will kill you all!"

His magic took on a form like a spear and flew into Evenfall's walls. "Get out! Everyone!" Queen Kiara commanded, and all obeyed.

"Will you not just die?!" Tahliya said to the Demon Sage. "Ah... Princess Tahliya... The... Former Princess, as it were... Prepare to die as I prepare to claim the price on your head!"

A bolt of energy caught The Dragon Knight in the chest. He dropped. His body vanished. He was gone. "Hmmm... That one appears to have mastered the power to alter probabilities... That must have been your Dragon Knight, Princess?" He said as his massive army marched on them. It was a hopeless battle.

The army stopped it's march. "What are you doing?" Stellius said. "I gave you an order!"

"Yes." A cold, hollow voice rang out from everywhere. "But I gave them one as well, and I out-rank you." A man armored in Blessed Steel as black as the dead of knight stepped into the field.

"The Black Knight of Nox is the General Commander of Nox's armies. He is also the last person we wanted to see here." Tahliya said. "Nobody knows who he is, he just appeared one day and my father gave him his current position. What we do know is he's a demon with that blade of his. 'Dis Pater', it's called. It's one of the Ancient Generals' weapons, so it's all but omnipotent."

"Men of Nox." Spoke the knight. "Do you believe this a fair fight?" The army was quiet. "If you do, you are cowards. If not, then why are you fighting? I will not see honor taken out of battle. Honor keeps us from being animals. Men of Nox. Depart for Eclipse and pray I do not catch you attacking innocents and weakened women again." The Knight was swallowed by shadows, and was gone without a trace.

Ranis had jumped in front of Tahliya to protect her. He was ready for any attack, but was surprised by the sudden twist in events.

He looked seriously at Philos. "What was that about?" He asked the same thing to Tahliya.

"That was the Black Knight of Nox. He once defeated an army single-handedly. He is no one you'd wish to face in battle, but I don't know why he was here... Does Archamenel fear him enough to send him away?" Tahliya said as she grabbed Ranis' hand.

"Thank you for trying to protect me, Sir Ranis. How could I repay you?" Her eyes had an honest look behind them. She felt happy for once.

Philos was frightened when he saw the building about to go down. Maybe I should've just killed them.... given them a quicker death....

When the Black Night stopped the army he was relieved. Philos felt he chose the right choice and looked at his amulet for a bit. It started fading into purple but went back to blue afterwards. "That was... surprising..."

"Yes, well... You may stay here until you all are rested and ready to go about your mission." Queen Kiara said.

Corona, Capital city of Lumina.

"Prepare my holy blade, Jamison." The High King said to his servant when he found the minister's body. "I'll deal with these people. Personally."

End of Part One.
