I didn't really know where to put a thread like this, so feel free to move it if you like.

I figured out a way to link to a youtube video without embedding the video in the post. In the URL for the video, change the http to https, and it will give you a link instead. See:

The second time, which had http in the URL always embeds the video, while https doesn't. I do feel like the link should be default for all videos though, and embedding the vid should require a BBCode tag similar to [img]. This way, there would be less loading for each thread that has a lot of videos (it tends to get laggy for me if there are lots)

I actually think we should use [video], [media], [youtube], or [nicovideo] tags to be honest.  I know the ToK uses Youtube and YTsound (just the sound, no video), the GSHC uses youtube and nicovideo, and the GSAR uses the video tag.  I've also seen media tag used.

I actually ran through the list of them before I realized that it auto-embeds...  It'd be nice if you could turn off the auto-embed, but also allow for a greater number of embedded vids per post (maybe five?).  Or perhaps scaled, based on which tag you use?  (three vids, or eight YT Sound tags?)

I know as much about coding as a turtle shell, but if [video] and/or [media] are versatile tags that can link to more video sites other than Youtube, then that would be the most practical way to go. That would solve the embedding issue. YTsound would be nice if we're talking about music, but it's not really necessary. This is, after all, a pretty minor issue.

I will be looking tomorrow for another mod. The current auto video embed mod doesn't support those features.

@Star:  I dunno, the only time I've ever posted vids here was for the music in the vids, not the vids themselves.  I really haven't seen anyone else post vids outside of for the music while I've been here, either...

We don't really do that often, but people have done it in the past, myself included.
